The European Pillar of Social Rights 5 years on: progress made and the work ahead

This year marks the 5th anniversary of the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR), which was adopted in November 2017. The aim of the pillar is to promote social rights all across Europe to make the EU fair and inclusive for all. The European Commission announced that so far it has put forward more than 130 initiatives for its implementation, which make up for 90% of the measures set out by the EPSR Action Plan. The initiatives are divided into the three main areas of the Pillar, which are the labour market, working conditions and social inclusion, and include the EU Disability Strategy, the EU Accessibility Act and the European Care Strategy.

EPR closely follows the progress of the EPSR and works to keep its members updated with the latest developments. Every year, EPR organises two study visits focused on the Pillar and some specific topics related to it and of interest of its members. The study visits took place in November, one in France hosted by LADAPT on independent living and the other in Spain hosted by Aura Foundation on employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
