The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) published its suggestions to realise Mental Health in all policies

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) published its suggestion on how to include mental health in our healthcare systems. Its realisation should prioritise prevention, early detection, and community-based care. Firstly, the EU Comprehensive Plan on Mental Health should be integrated into an EU Mental Health Strategy, with a clear timeframe, defined funding, responsibilities, and progress indicators. Secondly, the EESC emphasised accounting for socio-economic and environmental factors’ impact on mental health during the European Semester process, along with increased investments in the health sector. Ultimately, the Committee advocated for a person-centred approach, promoting active individual involvement in recovery and inclusive care – possibly tailored to vulnerable groups’ specific needs – in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
