The Commission announced the winners of the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Awards

On 28th April, the European Commission announced the winners of the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Awards, an annual competition aimed at highlighting and acknowledging the efforts of cities and regions across Europe to promote a fairer society for all, regardless of age, sex, ethnic origins, disability etc. The gold medal for the inclusion of people with disabilities was awarded to the Croatian town Koprivnica, followed by Ingelheim am Rhein (Germany) and Antequera (Spain).

This was the first edition of the Award, which was launched within the EU’s Anti-Racism Action Plan 2020-2025 and is part of the Commission’s work towards a Union of Equality. The awarding ceremony took place also on occasion of the launch of the European Diversity Month, which is going to be held in May 2022.
