Micro credentials as alternative training paths helping accessing employment

The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) published a new report named ‘Microcredentials for labour market education and training’ as part of the project The role of microcredentials in facilitating learning for employment. The report focuses on micro credentials as tools to forward accessibility in the labour market. It reflects on their role in today’s society, their link to certification and qualifications and the challenges brought by different national assessment systems.

The report describes how micro credentials are alternative training paths for those with absent or mediocre school experiences, who can now follow reskilling or upskilling programs. But also, micro credential qualifications are educational experiences opening up to those groups often excluded or discouraged from attending traditional education systems due to time, domestic or financial constraints.
