“La Maison du Mieux-Etre”: a unique system in France for the management of burnout

La Maison du Mieux-Etre” received its first beneficiaries on 4 December: 8 people suffering from burnout have access to an innovative and multidisciplinary system led by the Rehabilitation Center of Mulhouse.

Genesis of an innovative project.

“As a specialist in functional rehabilitation and vocational rehabilitation, what can we imagine for people affected by a growing but still little-recognized disease: burnout?” It is in response to this question, asked by a member of the strategic steering committee of the Rehabilitation Center of Mulhouse, that “La Maison du Mieux-Etre” was born. It took the five-person working group three years to build this project.

Preventing and supporting burnout: the objectives of “La Maison du Mieux-Etre”.

“La Maison du Mieux-Etre” has been designed to provide a complete and effective response to burnout, both in its prevention and occurrence as well as in its complications or possible relapses. The structure covers all aspects of burnout:

  • It offers coordinated and multidisciplinary support for people affected by burnout.
  • It works with companies in the Haut-Rhin region for prevention and training on the theme of burnout.

The innovative model of “La Maison du Mieux-Etre” offers a 360° response to the problem of burnout, which is now a real public health issue.

A complete program to find balance.

The aim of the system is to guarantee early, comprehensive and multidisciplinary support for people affected by burnout, their families and companies. The care, which is completely free of charge, is available in the medical and medico-social fields as well as in the personal and professional fields. It aims to promote the recovery of the person’s autonomy in all spheres of life.

The program is composed of two complementary components:

  • A collective phase deployed in three “boxes” corresponding to the 3 stages of reconstruction: disconnection, reconquest of empowerment, and return to professional activity. This course includes collective thematic workshops and individualized support, with follow-up by the multidisciplinary team.
  • Early and lasting individual support by the clinical psychologist who will guarantee the link between the needs expressed by the beneficiary and the multidisciplinary team. If necessary, individual support by professionals according to specific themes will be offered.

Prevention in the workplace: reducing the risk of burnout and relapse.

Burnout at work is both a public health and a societal issue. Focusing mainly on people with proven burnout therefore only allows you to have a partial vision and action on the subject. It was therefore essential to think of “La Maison du Mieux-Etre” as a system also aimed at companies, and in particular to include the theme of burnout in its two aspects:

  • Upstream, focus on prevention: raise awareness, support and train.
  • Downstream: securing the person’s return to the company after their sick leave.

This approach allows “La Maison du Mieux-Etre” to be part of a virtuous circle that reduces both the risks and the number of treatments.

At the end of his collective follow-up, one of the beneficiaries testifies: “This program is a blessing for people in my case. It allows you to glimpse a way out, to work on yourself. I’d just like to say a big THANK YOU for thinking about it, for making it happen, and for allowing me to live it.”

To date, the groups are already full for 2024, and a waiting list is in place for 2025.
