Online Awareness Raising Event – Challenges and Good Practice Supporting Older People with Disabilities

On December 10th, the EPR Online Awareness Raising Event took place online. EPR members shared their challenges and good practices focused on ageing of persons with disabilities. You can learn about their services by reading their presentations here: Panagia Elousa (Greece), INTRAS Foundation (Spain), E.G.N.Y.A (Greece). Dr Adolf D. Ratzka, Founding Director Emeritus, Independent Living Institute, Sweden, discussed “Ageing with a disability: Institutionalization or Personal Assistance?”.  Following that, Dr Alexia Zurkuhlen, Head of gewi-Institut for healthcare studies, Germany, presented the Pilot Theme of the SHAPES Pan-European Pilot Campaign “Improving In-Home and Community-based Care in a rural area in Germany”. In the panel discussion, Aurelie Baranger from Autism Europe and Hildur Önnudóttir of the International Federation of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (presentation here) showed their work aimed at ageing people in their sector. In conclusion,  Kathrin Riedler and Inmaculada Placencia from the European Commission DG EMP talked about European initiatives related to this topic.
