Discussing Key Skills for Social Services at the Joint Social Employers – EPSU Conference in Brussels

More from the Brussels bubble? It was great to see many passionate experts and practitioners coming together on Wednesday 29th May at a Conference to discuss skills, training and challenges for social services. Thanks to Social Employers and EPSU for organising such an interactive session, which is highly timely as the ambitious objectives set out by the European Skills Agenda are to be achieved by 2025. EPR partook in the group discussion on ‘person-centred’ skills, where participants engaged in fruitful brainstorming and exchange of ideas to identify the top five key skills required to deliver person-centred services. What were they? Co-production approach, knowledge of legal provisions, empathy, accessible accommodation and effective management. As services across Europe transition in this direction, a renewed attention must be placed on building the aforementioned capacities by allocating sufficient funding to the social services sector.
