New EDF Toolkit Empowers Persons with Disabilities to Enforce Their Rights

On May 13 2024, the European Disability Forum (EDF) released an Enforcement Toolkit that provides a mapping of the enforcement mechanisms available for persons with disabilities to enforce their rights. The toolkit classifies 4 types of mechanisms, offering guidance on both non-judicial and judicial enforcement mechanisms, at national and European levels. Each of these has pros and cons – some are free, some are costly.  In fact, despite a plethora of legislation designed to protect the rights of persons with disabilities, there are often violations and breaches, thus ensuring compliance is of quintessential importance. The Toolkit serves as a critical map for navigating the available enforcement options, complete with practical advice and examples of successful cases, helping persons with disabilities choose the best approach based on the nature and level of the rights violation. EPR is a proud member of EDF, having attended their Annual General Assembly May 11 and 12 May 2024 in Ljubljana.
