Equal Treatment: Highlights of the year!

During the first half of the year, the project partners worked on analysing the research information and data collated for good practices and from the literature review and stakeholder needs analysis. EPR was responsible for developing policy recommendations based on the findings and analysis. The final reports and Study with policy recommendations is now available online in English, Greek, Spanish, Lithuanian and Finish. The Study and policy recommendations have been shared with the WHO Europe Office to support its development of the WHO European Framework for action to achieve the highest attainable standard of health for persons with disabilities 2022–2030 and with members of the project Advisory Board: European Hospital and Healthcare Federation, INCLUSION EUROPE and European Specialist Nurses Organisation.

Based on the needs analysis and research findings, partners arrived at an agreement on the topics for the eLearning course and started developing the 3 modules for healthcare staff and students:

• module 1: “Understanding Intellectual Disabilities”
• module 2: “Good communication and shared decision making: Establishing Good communication with People with Intellectual Disability and basic principles of Supported Decision Making”
• module 3: “Good practices, ways and reasonable Adjustments in the healthcare context to establish efficient treatment for persons with Intellectual Disabilities”.

These modules are designed to enhance the skills of secondary and tertiary healthcare professionals and medical institution staff in caring for patients with intellectual disabilities. The eLearning course for professional supporters (Work Package 4) has been initiated and progressing well. The team is currently engaged in defining the structure of these training modules, ensuring they are tailored to meet the specific needs of the project’s target audience.

EPR hosted the 3rd Transnational Partners’ Meeting in Brussels on the 14th and 15th of December 2023 to enable a vital opportunity for all partners to come together, review progress, manage risks and issues and strategize for the next steps.
