The European Commission publishes its 2024 work programme

The European Commission unveiled its 2023 work programme this October, charting a course for a resilient Europe in the face of challenges like Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and rising energy prices. This ambitious agenda seeks to uphold democratic values, ensure economic stability, and pursue long-term goals. It also prioritises legislative proposals to swiftly implement the Commission’s key ambitions. The Commission’s strategy revolves around achieving climate neutrality by 2050, shaping the digital future, bolstering the social market economy, and strengthening Europe’s global position. The work programme draws inspiration from the conclusions of the Conference on the Future of Europe and aims to lay the groundwork for a better future for all Europeans. Building on the success of the Conference, the Commission is introducing participatory practices in its policy-making. Citizens’ panels will now play a role in policymaking, focusing on areas like food waste, learning mobility, and virtual worlds.
